  • Can You Tell A Story In… 38 Words

I called into Esther Chilton’s website yesterday. Years ago I wrote a short story which was published in the Writing Competition pages of the Writer’s Forum magazine and Esther was the judge. Aside from this cementing her as my favourite writing competition judge, I thought I’d check out her site to see how things were going.

Turns out she’d dropped a little treat of a “Can You Tell A Story In…” challenge on there, citing four words which need to be included as part of the task: Breeches, Tittle-Tattle, Spaceship and Yoga.

I hoisted up my breeches, did a little yoga stretch, and came up with these:

    The Daily Tittle-Tattle Classifieds

For Sale: Breeches. Worn once for a yoga session on Earth.

Reason for sale: Only suitable for two human legs.

    Contact: Zlorg@spaceship-tours.com

    And then this:

“He figured group yoga sessions on a spaceship weren’t ideal. After splitting his breeches right down the middle after executing a perfect Downward Dog pose, the captain knew he’d soon become the target for some intergalactic tittle-tattle.”

Great little writing exercise to dust off the cobwebs!

  • Howdy!

Not sure why my hello post leads with a ‘howdy’ heading since I’m not American, nor does it align with my natural British tendency to dial down the enthusiasm, but there it is. It felt like a howdy moment.

This is my first post and one just for introduction really. Welcome to my site. Fifteen years after everyone else started a personal web site, I’m now satisfied the technology is here to stay and thought I’d finally dip my toe.

Over the years I’ve done many things and worn many hats. I’m a software developer by trade, I’ve learnt languages, I’ve recently tried a bit of voice over. I play a bit of tennis. I have an insatiable coffee habit and drink (and spend) too much on the stuff.

I also love to write. Over the years I got myself married, had me a bunch of kids, and hobbies have come and gone. But one thing has been consistent. During this time, where my time has been at a premium whether working, COVID locking us all down or changing the kids’ sloppy nappies, the desire to write has always been there, waving wildly and trying to get my attention.

So, this is why danince.com exists. I thought I’d give it a go. Write a bunch of short stories and musings and slap them on here in the hope to help people enjoy their coffee break with the odd story or two.

Anyway, that’s a long and winding way to say howdy, but it’s a big howdy all the same.

    All the best,

    Dan
