This short story was written in response to Esther Chilton’s “Can You Tell A Story In… 60 words” challenge, citing six words which need to be included as part of the story: Cow, Sarong, Grapefruit, Hobby, Wheelbarrow and Alphabet.

Enid the Cow lounged in her pink, elegant sarong while supping on grapefruit juice through a straw, casting her eye across the applicants. To test their worthiness, she would make prospective members balance on the wheel of an upturned wheelbarrow while reciting the alphabet. Backwards. 

While recruitment was ultimately the aim, antagonising the applicants was something of a hobby.
